Odette Roy Fombrun is the Founder of FORF (Fondation Odette Roy Fombrun), a not-for-profit organization whose primary objectives are to promote Education and foster Economic Development for Haiti; Odette donates all royalties and proceeds from sales of her books to FORF.
At 94 years old, she is a regular commentator on social and political issues in Haiti. With her energy, she fights relentlessly for Haitian cultural resources - Indian/African/Western - to be used judiciously and for Haiti to become the Only Cultural Center in the Caribbean.
Odette Roy Fombrun firmly proposes to change the name of Hispaniola island to Quisqueya Island, a name that recalls Taino culture.
Odette Roy Fombrun was named a Living National Treasure by the Fondation Françoise Canez Auguste and a Woman of Merit by the DEFI Foundation in 2009. She was recognized by the movement ‘Aimer Haiti' for her continuing efforts to build national unity through konbitism.

Odette Roy Fombrun was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on June 13, 1917 and completed her studies at Haiti's Ecole Normale d'Institutrices in 1935. She attended the Nursery Training School of Boston in 1945. Odette Roy Fombrun founded in 1946 the first kindergarten in Haiti and devoted her entire lifetime to public education.
She wrote several manuals on civic, history and geography that have been a staple in Haitian schools since her first book was published in 1949. As a citizen of the world since 1981, Odette has been a staunch advocate of human rights and of international aid that is well coordinated in order to get the best results.
