This crafty political trickery is expressly designed to serve as an instrument of permanent control to maintain the “status quo” which essentially guarantees the preservation of the present system of “oligopoly”. Hence, the basis for such a strong opposition to dual citizenship.

In order to stop turning the wheel toward a gradual reversal of fortune and to achieve a quick and sustainable recovery, it is absolutely necessary to lift the social and political barriers that have over the years dampened the enthusiasm of the Haitian Diaspora to the point of slowly fading into a paralyzing idleness. As a good display of our spontaneity and sensibility, a number of quick solutions and decisions have already been put into motion by a number of well-meaning social and professional Haitian organizations. But, however honorable or respectable our traditional thinkers and luminary minds may seem, let’s not ignore the fact that there is an immense sea of knowledge to be gained by inviting our young generation to participate in the final decision- making process.

It is estimated that a quarter of our youngsters are now part of the elite group of professional movers and shakers in the high-ranking role of executives in both the United States and Canada. This is a rich source of talents available to be used as a fountainhead through which we can extract all the special tools required for our long term reconstruction. Most other Caribbean countries are now concentrating a great deal of their resources developing ways to attract this priceless human capital with ancestral denominations. The time has come for all of us, parents and grandparents, to help Haiti by engaging the young professionals, our own hidden human treasures scattered in executive arenas all over North America to consider participating actively in the lobbying task of “ Let's rebuild Haiti, our motherland, from the ashes of the quake”.

extensively recorded moment of our national sorrow . The grotesquery of the unfolding imagery of what nature's maddening motion can do to change our comfort zone makes one realize that destiny can be at once cruel and kind. The outpouring of love and human compassion from the international brotherhood of the five continents is a clear demonstration of the inherently powerful bond that connects all members of the human family. For that, the people of Haiti is eternally grateful.

With a flood of new projects, fashioned in the minds of well wishers, ardent optimists and genuine experts in post-disaster relief and recovery, Haiti can once again expect the return of a bright fresh air in a future that will be determined by a cordial assent of its citizenry to the difficult, but necessary step of achieving unity through a collective national conscience. No one expects a miracle, but I surely hope that this thunderous call for unity will humble all of us to finally realize that indeed “ no one man is an island ”. In the pursuit of personal ambitions, we have failed to uphold our forefathers' revolutionary pledge “ L'union fait la force” and have so abandoned our proud tradition of excellence to the pursuit of self-indulgence.

In so doing, we have managed to slowly erode our once proud recognition as the beacon of freedom for the entire post-colonial world to the point of leaving only the vestigial remnants of this glorious past. It is now high time that we, as good patriots conscious of our personal shortcomings, develop a process through which we can, with deep humility, begin to pass the marshal’s baton of management to the new generation of capable leaders. This recurring cycle of political selection by emotions rather than election for proven solutions has over the years created a closed circle of the “old boys political club”, a political structure that operates much like the college fraternity organizations with secret rites and socially selective representation.
The community of nations has been incredibly kind to the people of Haiti. On January 12, 2010 shortly after Haiti's 206th years of independence, this raging thunder struck its innocent victims with a detonating fury more lethal than anything one could ever imagine. In a matter of an instant on this fateful day of January 12, 2010, there was a sudden life-changing darkness that settled on a city where a few minutes before the brightness of the sun was pouring through an open sky and people were standing and walking mindlessly on what appeared to be a geologically stable ground. The immediate overpowering alarm of fear and confusion that gripped the people sharing the epicenter of this disaster is now a matter of an
