So, the month of May is indeed Haitian heritage Month because it has great historical and cultural awareness that all Haitians are proud of and should pass on to future generations.
This event proved nevertheless that Haitians can get together to promote their cultural heritage and do positive things despite their political affiliations. The parade was a striking example of such sense of unity, thanks to the tremendous effort of the organizers. But, the driving force behind this great celebration has been the CEO of the Haitian Day Parade and Festival in New York who has constantly envisioned pride and respect for all Haitians.
The president of this organization, Ernest Emmanuel, has been launching the Haitian Day Parade since 2002, and never gave up. It has been better than ever with the presence of more Haitian performers and floats honoring the founders and major contributors of Haitian history and culture. In fact, the names of the great Nemours Jean-Baptiste, Webert Sicot, Toto Bissainthe, Roger Colas, Jean-Gesner Henri (Coupe-Cloue), Lumane casimir, Theodore Beaubrun (Languichatte Debordus), band singer Antoine Rossini Jn-Baptiste (Ti Manno) journalist Jean Dominique, Wilson Desir, the legendary soccer player Emmanuel Sanon etc... appeared on a float depicting tombs of such famous Haitian figures deceased in the past 20 years.
Under a gorgeous and brilliant sunny day on May 25, 2008, thousands of Haitians made their way to the Haitian flag day parade and festival in New york in order to celebrate the 205th birth anniversary of the Haitian flag.
People wearing and waving multiple blue and red flags on Nostrand avenue in Brooklyn showed their support to the well-organized Haitian day parade while contemplating beautiful floats, marching bands, choreographers dancing to the rhythm of Haitian compas.
There were
colorful and traditional costumes, stilts, root band which remind onlookers of a unique carnival time. Another group of people enjoyed the ambiance even better when Haitian band T-Vice blasted Nostrand Avenue with their festive and popular meringue.
