Haiti's Hidden Treasures!
Manno Sanon: June 25, 1951 - February 21, 2008
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on June 25, 1951, Emmanuel Sanon best known as "Ti-Manno" became synonymous with Haitians and soccer sports enthusiasts in the 1970's. He was the only soccer player to score in the 1974's World Cup for Haiti with one of the most spectacular goals against Italy snapping Dino Zoff's record 1,144 minutes over two years without allowing a goal. There was an eruption of joy and pride wherever Haitians were watching the game at that time.

Haiti's Hidden Treasures II
Click the link above to preview the documentary.
A $6 million fiber optic submarine cable network will soon connect Port-au-Prince, Haiti to the Bahamas, the United States, and the rest of the world. BTC (Bahamas Telecommunications Company), a company owned 100 percent by the Government of The Bahamas, has been working with Teleco of Haiti, a company owned 100 percent by the Government of Haiti, to establish a 10 giga bit fiber optic submarine cable network.

Since 2005, TELECO and BTC has launched the construction of this new network and according to the CEO of TELECO the final phase of this FIO line to Haiti is close to an end.

This project will bring mutual benefits to the citizens of The Bahamas and the Republic of Haiti as both governments seek to provide affordable, modern, reliable, cutting-edge technology to their citizens. In addition to the increase of offshore bandwidth to the Republic of Haiti, this cable will have the capacity to provide 200 digital television channels while improving the reliability, robustness and scalability of Information and Communications Technology to Haiti.

This project is of major national importance since it will would provide the platform for the provisioning of e-commerce, e-trade, e-education, e-medicine and other ICT initiatives between both islands.

Haiti has historical linkages to The Bahamas. As a member of CARICOM and with a large Haitian and Haitian descendants population resident in The Bahamas with large volumes of telecommunications traffic between the two countries, it is only fair that mutual telecommunication systems between both islands as well as cheaper communication rates for their citizens would be enhanced.

CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES: ALTERNATIVE FUELS FOR COOKING
Charcoal has always been the primary fuel for cooking in Haiti because it's cheaper, burns cleanly and easy to find. As the price of kerosene and propane gas tank is higher 90% of homes depend traditionally on charcoal while others exploit wood, thus leaving the country with a little less than 3% of its forest. Given that issue, which has left Haiti lacking of wood supplies, some engineers were able to create a charcoal that could be produced easily, cost-effective and plentiful in Haiti.

Destination: Ile-à-Vache (Watch video clip in English with Hi-Speed Internet)
Ile-a-Vache is an unspoiled and beautiful island located off the southern coast of Haiti, close to the town of Les Cayes. It owes its name to the large numbers of cattle that used to roam there. Ironically, the shape of the island appears roughly like a sleeping cow in the midst of a virgin nature. It has a population of more than 10,000 people who live essentially of seafood, local crops, small commerce, and boat transportations...

ARE WE REALLY ROLLING ON GOLD?
In reference to Rosny Desroches booklet published in 1996 “Ni Misère, Ni Pauvreté Pour Haiti” (Neither Misery, Nor Poverty For Haiti), which focuses on Haiti's natural resources, there are many good evidences convincing us to believe that we are walking on gold. This statement along with others divulge that Haiti abounds with metallic resources such as gold, silver, copper, zinc and astonishing treasures hidden underneath our mountains...

I Am Toussaint Louverture, The First of The Blacks
Born on May 20, 1743, Francois Dominique Toussaint Louverture was the son of Gaou Guinou, an African King of Dahomey (presently Benin) whose tribes (Aradas) were deported to the Island of Saint-Domingue (today, Haiti and the Dominican Republic) to work on the coffee and sugar plantations.
