Ever since, with the emergence of each hurricane season, the beach of Port-Salut has been slowly carried away by harmful sea waves. Overall, the situation is disturbing because p eople continue to cut down most of the country's trees to make charcoal, leaving the hillsides barren and unable to absorb heavy rain. Massive deforestation have caused unusually heavy rains to pose severe threats in many vulnerable regions of Haiti. As a result, floods and human casualties have been dramatically on the rise in several departments like the south, south east, north west, west, Grand-Anse, Artibonite and Nippes.
